Warehouse Efficiency System (WES) Introduction and Background

Kenco began development of a warehouse management software (WMS) system in 1988.  The system is known by the acronym WES, which stands for Warehouse Efficiency System.

The software was completely re-written and upgraded with major enhancements in 1998 and 1999.   Significant enhancements were made to the RF capabilities of the WES system in 2000 and 2001.  The software runs on the IBM AS/400 platform, and utilizes IBM’s DB2 database.  Improvements to the software occur continually, and Kenco maintains a staff of software development professionals to keep the WES system up to date.

The WES system will be re-engineered to operate on the Microsoft SQL Server database by third quarter 2007.  The underlying WES application code will be    re-written in Visual Basic.Net to provide a windows native system to our users.  All of the functionality in the WES system outlined above will be maintained in the VB.Net offering.

Kenco will continue to support all WES customers using the AS/400 offering for at least two years after the introduction of the VB.Net release.

Many of the developers of the WES system have a background as Kenco warehouse staff.  All are familiar with the tasks that occur on the warehouse floor, the equipment that is used in the warehouse, and bring the knowledge of what saves time and what wastes time in completing tasks in the warehouse to the software development effort.

The WES system offers a full complement of functions buyers look for in warehouse management software (WMS) systems.   Inventory on hand information and order status information is available to WES customers via Internet browser.

Kenco operates warehouses for customers who have chosen WMS solutions other than the WES system.  Kenco managers are familiar with using a variety of WMS solutions operating on different platforms and different databases.
