Data Security and Disaster Recovery

The Kenco I.T. staff will issue a detailed procedure to be followed at the warehouse locations, specifying the frequency of data backups, how many backup tapes to use, how these are to be rotated, and how these are to be stored.   We recommend that a “power user” for the WES system be trained at each location where the WES system is used.  This person normally is assigned responsibility for following the backup procedures.

Our level 1 backup plan backs up the primary server data to tape each day, and then to tape each week.   These tapes are stored in secure vaults at the warehouses.

Our level 2 data backup plan provides a real time data backup via WAN connections between the primary WMS processor and a backup failover processor at the Kenco backup IT facility.  The backup server is configured with software to take over as the primary server in the event the primary server fails for some reason.   This system copies all transactions from the primary processor to the backup processor in real time, so the backup server is continually maintaining all customer order and inventory data.   The backup system will take over as the primary within 2 minutes time of a critical failure on the primary WMS processor.

This is a best-of-class data protection system, and is now provided for all Kenco WMS customers at no additional charge to the customer.

The backup server is housed in a Kenco-owned facility located 15 miles from the primary Kenco data center.  The backup data center is powered by a separate power grid, and is equipped with a standby diesel generator in the event power to the building is interrupted.
