Steve White, a member of the Kenco Transportation Team since 2005, finished second place in the Sleeper Class division of the 2007 Tennessee Truck Driving Championship, recently held in Nashville. In addition, White was runner-up to Rookie of the Year and had the second highest score overall among first-time participants at this year’s Championship.
Sponsored by the Tennessee Trucking Association, this annual competition draws more than 200 participants from across the state, who are judged on the following criteria: personal interview/appearance, written exam, pre-trip inspection evaluation and a competitive driving test, which includes six problems that the driver must successfully identify and complete. In order to be eligible, drivers must be accident-free (preventable and non-preventable) for one year and must be employed with their current company for at least one year. In addition, drivers must participate in the competition on their own free time and cannot be paid by their companies to compete.
“Steve did a great job representing Kenco,” said Kenco Transportation Safety Manager Mike Killian, who accompanied White to the competition. “It’s a tribute to his exceptional driving skills, and it’s an honor to have him part of our Kenco Transportation Team.”
White was presented with a trophy during an awards banquet that followed the competitive events and will be asked to attend the National Truck Driving Championship if the winner is not available to attend.
He and his wife, Tabitha, and three children reside in Cleveland, Tennessee.
