Komatsu Selects Kenco As Logistics Provider for Kentucky Plant
October 9, 2007

The Lexington, Kentucky-based remanufacturing operation of Komatsu America Corporation (KAC), the largest overseas subsidiary of Japan-based Komatsu International, has selected the Kenco Logistic Services as its third-party logistics provider.

Headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, KAC is the second-largest, fully integrated manufacturer and supplier of construction equipment in North America.  With manufacturing plants in Chattanooga, TN; Newberry, S.C.; Peoria, IL; and Candiac, Quebec; KAC’s remanufacturing operations are handled out of the Lexington, KY facility.

“We were looking for ways to streamline operations, so that we could focus more on our core business,” said Komatsu’s Lexington Plant Manager Rob Shear.  “Kenco already had a proven track record with our Chattanooga operation, so it was a natural to bring them on board as our 3PL provider.”  According to Shear, the transition thus far has been “very smooth.”

In addition to handling all of the shipping, receiving, put-away, picking and material handling for Komatsu’s Lexington plant, Kenco has also been a part of the re-manufacturing process by handling the core return process from Komatsu distributors.

“Remanufacturing is a tremendously fast-growing business in the United States and within the Komatsu organization,” said Shear.  “By remanufacturing components for construction and mining equipment, there’s not only a significant cost advantage for customers, but also a huge benefit to the environment.”

Established in the U.S. in 1970, Komatsu America Corporation manufactures and markets a full line of integrated construction equipment from the smallest compact construction size to the largest mining size. Its product line includes hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders, crawler dozers, off-highway trucks, motor graders, skid steer loaders, tractor loaders and backhoe loaders.

Through the years, KAC has built a network of manufacturing plants and parts depots with approximately 2000 employees who manufacture more than 90% of all Komatsu America equipment right here in the United States.  All indicators point toward continued rapid growth and expansion in domestic markets.  For more information, please visit www.komatsuamerica.com.

Based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kenco is one of the nation’s leading full-service providers of logistics management, warehousing, distribution, and transportation solutions, with facilities and affiliates throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
