LSSGB Project Selection Requirements

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) candidates are required to complete a Lean Six Sigma project for certification.  LSSGB projects must achieve a project savings of $25,000.

In selecting a project to complete, it is important to select a project which is tied to business needs and company/site goals.  Potential opportunities to focus attention may come from:

  • Business needs/Strategic goals
  • Customer needs, issues, or complaints
  • Missed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Bottlenecks and/or problem areas
  • Processes with long cycle times, high re-work, and/or defect rates
  • Previous project work
  • Employee suggestions

Lean Six Sigma projects should have the following characteristics:

  • No known solution in advance
  • Good data available or able to be gathered
  • Aimed at making a process better, faster, and/or lower cost
  • Drives business profitability and/or enhances customer value
  • Clear/precise definition of the problem, project goals, and scope of the project
  • Resources and support available for working on the project

Lean Six Sigma project savings must be present 30, 60, and 90 days after project completion to confirm that implemented improvements continue to achieve the anticipated savings and do not revert to pre-improvement performance.
